Hungary '09
Well, tomorrow I embark on the summer of a lifetime! I fly out to Hungary where I will be spending time with young kids up to young adults. We'll be playing sports, doing Bible studies, I'll be teaching them English, they'll be teaching me Hungarian : ) In the past month I've learned over 1000 Hungarian words and phrases to try and be able to connect better with the people there. I got to tell you, Hungarian is not an easy language. But I suppose it parallels the difficulty of reaching a people with a completely different upbringing and culture than myself, and highlights the need for God to surround this entire endeavor. I am excited for several reasons. I'm excited to see the faces I met on my last journey to Hungary; I'm excited for all the new faces whom I don't know but will soon be friends of mine; I'm excited for the challenge of ministering to kids with broken pasts and shaky futures; I'm excited to put my Hungarian skills to the test; and I'm excited for what God will do in my own life. I've learned to not expect specific things for these kinds of adventures, but to just expect God to move powerfully. Hopefully I will be able to publish updates while I am away so check back from time to time. I'll return July 21 and on July 24 I take off for five weeks in North Carlolina to help out with an international camp there. Pray for my time in both places. It's going to be amazing!
